Applegate Publishes Paper

Fall 2006

Beth Applegate is one of five contributors selected by the Alliance for Nonprofit Management to develop a framing paper on building cultural group solidarity in the context of developing multi-racial societies through capacity building in the nonprofit sector. The Alliance’s Cultural Competency Initiative aims to transform the nonprofit capacity building field, catalyze nonprofit leadership and thereby spark larger social change. Advancing the knowledge, incentive and practice of cultural competency is a critical path to effectively guiding social and financial capital of nonprofits.

The purpose of the framing paper is to provide definitions and examples of culturally based capacity building with individuals, organizations and communities. The paper seeks to demonstrate the interconnection between the broader context of justice oriented social change and the intimacy created by effective capacity building.
